‘A Number’ - Conceptual (2024)

Playwright - Caryl Churchill

Director - Lucy Hall

Costume designer - Nancy Tait

This was a conceptual costume design project for ‘A Number’ which is about the relationships between a man and his cloned sons. It explores the question of nature vs nurture and parent/child relationships.

I wanted the characters to seem recognisable, so although they are in a future where cloning now exists they are still just normal people. I was inspired by things like x-rays and veins so incorporated this into the costumes through colour.
